Stephen Morse, President of the Grafton Village Cheese Company, announced that the company has donated 20,000 pounds of its cheddar cheese to the Vermont Foodbank. Morse said, "We have just completed the best year in the company's history and thought it only right to share our prosperity." The Vermont Foodbank was chosen because it has a reputation of efficiently serving the needs of less fortunate Vermonters.
The Grafton Village Cheese Company routinely donates cheese to local schools for lunch programs and other Vermont nonprofit organizations. "We felt we should do more this year and decided to make the larger donation," Morse said.
The Cheese Company is affiliated with the Windham Foundation as a subsidiary corporation. The Foundation is well known throughout Vermont for its philanthropic work. Morse said, "We view this donation as a continuation of the Foundation's charitable work of helping our fellow Vermonters."
The Grafton Village Cheese Company dates its history back to the 1890s and produces about 1,500,000 pounds of award-winning cheddar cheese annually for national distribution. The company is recognized nationally for its aged cheddar cheese and recently introduced a six-year-old cheddar to the market.
